Piping for Burns Night Supper in Holborn

There was a fantastic Burns supper tonight in Holborn.  The haggis season is long in London so even though Burns Night was technically last month, I’m still piping away for the last few parties. I left the office in plenty of time and was glad I did.  Couldn’t believe the amount of snow when I got off at Holborn Tube.  This particular event was hosted by “Bite Entertainment” a boutique caterers, whose canapés were the best I’ve ever had – “Rare roast beef on Scottish scone bread with a chilli kick”.  I played the bagpipes as all the guests arrived, thanking my lucky stars that my client Lou Beegan didn’t ask me to play outside in the snow!

I got them all toe stepping and in the mood for a hooley and sure enough it wasn’t long before they were jigging and reeling around the place.  The venue was split over two floors so I ended up marching around and playing to individual tables so everyone got a taste of the action.

I had a little break and the host was generous at the bar with a ‘Tab for the Piper.’ The mighty haggis entered the venue to the sound of bagpipes at around 9.30pm and the address to the beasty was a collective affair and very theatrical.

I finished off with a few fast sets to finish the party off in style before heading back out into the snow.  My brogues were a bit lethal on the slippery pathways – I don’t know how they do it in the Highlands.  I nearly went kilt up twice and I only had two Guinesses!  I had to walk all the way to Tottenham Court Road Tube since Holborn station was shut, how does everywhere else in the world manage? Great night all the same, hopefully we’ll be back again next year!
